I have recently upgraded my oracle database version 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.4 on my Test and Production Instances in Linux environment.Followed steps are as bellow.

Upgradation of Oracle Database to 10.2.0.4 from 10.2.0.X
Oracle Database can be upgrade either in the interactive or non interactive mode.After installed the patch set for 10.2.04,I used Oracle Database Upgrade Assistant (dbua) thorough the interactive mode and ran the dbua.Do the following things is as follows before execute the dbua.The dbua executable is usually located in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory.
